What is a Software Update, Really?

In simple terms, a software update, or "patch," is a small piece of code designed to fix issues within an existing program. The Threat: A series of critical flaws allows hackers to bypass standard "Are you sure?" security warnings. By simply clicking a malicious link or opening a compromised file (like a Word doc or Notepad file), a virus can trigger in the background without your permission. Worst of all, these flaws could grant a hacker Administrator access, giving them the "Master Key" to watch your screen, steal files, and change system settings.
The Fix: Microsoft has released a series of security patches to block these background infections and prevent "guest" users from escalating to admin status.
